Been around in Springfield for years - Sub Shop is hands down the best sub in the area. The place is about the size of your backyard shed. People may be standing in line out the door. However, the staff works so fast, the line moves quite fast.
The bread for the sandwiches is the perfect wrapper to all their sandwich creations. Fighter Pilot is a great choice with spicy sub sauce. No matter the choice however -
You'll enjoy your lunch at the Sub Shop!! -

Where to start. This place is cash only but they have great prices! The staff are some of the most friendly people you will find at any restaurant. Everything tastes fresh every time. They have some great unique takes on classic sandwiches. There are benches outside but no other seating. Every sandwich I've tried is good so it is hard to pin point just one. Whether you go with the veggie which has cashews or do one of the ones with Italian meats, they are amazing!

Love supporting local business! The veggie sandwich is great with cashews. Impressive selection of chips.

I went to The Sub Shop on my lunch break because it is very close to where I work, and I had heard great things about them.
I ordered a Big Beef with no mayo and no bread. Pretty simple, right? The man behind the counter gave me a strange look. I told him if they needed to use the bread to hold everything together, that was fine, I could just take it off. He suggested I order a salad. I told him the sandwich would be fine, with or without bread, whatever was easiest. Again, he suggested I get a salad, this time specifying the chef salad. I don't like ham, and the chef salad was not even slightly close to what I ordered. I repeated that they could assemble the sandwich with bread to hold it together if they needed to. He turned to the girl behind the counter and told her what I wanted.
On my way out the door, for the third time, he said "I would suggest a salad next time MA'AM"
Had I realized what a major impact my no bread request had on their lives, I would have gone somewhere else. Most places are more than willing to accommodate me asking for no bread. I did not realize it was that much of an inconvenience for them.
When I got back to my office, I had nothing but meat and cheese. Nothing. I totally wasted $4.50 on virtually nothing.
I can assure you, this was the quickest way to get rid of a customer, if that's what you were going for. Good job. -

Ever since moving out of Springfield, I always make sure to make a stop here any time I'm back in town. It's a small establishment with outstanding sandwiches. There is always a line (that always moves quickly), which proves Springfield's appreciation to this local classic. All the ingredients are fresh, especially their bread. The genuine kindness and dependable warm greeting from the staff make it a joy to frequent.
